Darcey Achin grew up on the border of Mexico and the USA in Arizona. Her jewelry is a blend of the old world and the new. A time where the border was merely a formality and people passed freely through daily. She was adopted and raised by a woman who had Indigenous Americas and European ancestry who taught her leathercraft and beading.

A time where the border was merely a formality and people passed freely through daily. She was adopted and raised by a woman who had Indigenous Americas and European ancestry who taught her leathercraft and beading. She grew up scouring the mine tailings in Bisbee Arizona and selling the turquoise and other minerals to the local rock cutters in town. Learning a bit of silversmithing from Bisbee Bob Later she went on to receive a degree in Geology from Texas Tech University. She worked as a Geologist for several years in the Oil Field in 6 different states in the Southwest. Eventually she returned back to Texas and joined the Lubbock Gem and Mineral Society where she learned lapidary and slabbing and cabbing her extensive rock collection into wearable pieces. she went to South Plains College to study metalsmithing then started the business Gnarled Roots
